Top Tips to Fast Healthily During Ramadan

Ramadan is upon us soon and it's time for Muslims around the world to fast again. Although your meal routine will be interrupted during this period, there are several ways to ensure your fasting period is safe and manageable. Here are some of our top tips to stay healthy and fit during this holy month.


Drink lots of water

Drink lots of fluids throughout the night and Sahur to reduce the risk of dehydration during fasting. Choose fluids that aren't caffeinated as they may cause dehydration. We recommend you to have at least 8 glasses of water before your fast begins.


Eat a balanced meal

Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, healthy fat — these are important to restore nutrients to your body. Avoid sugary and oily foods as they might spike your blood sugar level and cause acid reflux. Just like on non-Ramadan days, a balanced meal is perfect for your nutrition needs.


Sleep adequately

Lack of sleep will affect your appetite, brain performance, and body condition. It'll be harder to make it through fasting if you're feeling tired right after you wake up. Be sure to sleep earlier since you have to wake up earlier for Sahur!


Don't eat too quickly

Rushing your meals can cause indigestion and other stomach problems. Eat slowly in small portions to prevent weight gain and to promote digestion. It also helps in preventing weight gain!


Exercise lightly

Engage in a light exercise routine just before Iftar to keep your body fit and to aid your digestive system. A brisk walk around the park or neighbourhood is adequate to keep your fitness levels in check. Be sure not to engage in any high-intensity workouts during this month!
